Fear of Surrender
1 John 4:18 “There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love.”
In our times of prayer, we will yield ourselves only so much to God, because of the fear of what He will bring into our lives when we do surrender. Because of this mindset, we are afraid to pray for God to work patience in us; even though it is when patience has her perfect work that we become perfect and entire wanting nothing. We panic when we realize that we have to fully submit to the will of God in a matter; even though we know that His will is what is best for our lives.
We dread and worry about these and other areas, because we don’t understand the love and character of God. The Bible declares our Lord to be faithful, true, gracious and good. It also teaches us that He loves us so much that He willing gave His own Son to redeem us back to Himself. If God’s character is perfect and He loves us that much, why would we think that He is intent on troubling our lives? Our understanding of Him should bring us to an entirely different conclusion. Because He is so loving and wonderful, we should feel confident to cast ourselves before Him knowing that His great love for us will not allow Him to do anything that is not for our best.
Christian, we don’t have to fear the work of our God in our life! There should be no fear for the Christian in the outcome of our prayers. When we understand the love and goodness of our God, it will cast out any alarm that we have, and will cause us to confidently ask for His perfect will and way to be accomplished in us. Yield yourself wholly today to your God who loves you and has your best in mind!
