Life After Death
Recognize Your Current Condition
One of the most prominent problems in our world today is something called “pride.” It’s everywhere – in our personal lives, in our families, in our careers, on television, in government, even in our churches! Pride will prevent me from recognizing my current condition. In order to have Life after Death you must admit that you are what the Bible calls a “sinner”. You must admit that you’re lost in sin. Romans 3:23 says “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.” Sin is anything that is opposed to God’s laws and commandments. Have you ever sinned? Have you ever lied or taken something that wasn’t yours? You could ask yourself a lot of questions here, but you already know the answer; OF COURSE you’ve sinned! Romans 5:12 says that “as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:” Because of the sin of the first man and first woman on earth, Adam and Eve, you and I are guilty of sin no matter how “good” we may be or may act. We are sinful by nature!
In your life, whenever you’ve done something wrong there has probably always been a penalty. If you steal, you usually don’t get away with it, and have pay someone back for what you stole (usually more than what you took). If you break the law and speed, you have to pay a speeding fine! The Bible also says that sin has a penalty. Romans 6:23 says “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” The penalty for sin is spiritual death! If you die and have to pay this penalty, you’ll be separated from God forever.
Is there another way?
Surely there has to be an easy way to pay this penalty. I should be able to do something to get around it, right? Proverbs 14:12 says “There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.” Our ways are not God’s ways… What may seem like a “logical” or “another” way just isn’t up to par with God’s way. God gave us a way! John 3:16 says “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” God sent His son, Jesus, to die on a cross and to raise from the dead 3 days later all because He loved us! He loves you and I even we’re VERY unloveable!
Jesus says in John 14:6 “I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father but by me.” You see, the ONLY way is Jesus. Ephesians 2:8-9 tells us “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and than not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: not of works, lest any man should boast.” Did you catch that, it isn’t by working that we can have life after death, because working will allow us to boast or to have pride! Through Jesus Christ’s death, burial, and resurrection, He became the payment for our sin. By His Grace, salvation is offered to us. Romans 5:8 says “But God commendeth His love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”
Believe and Receive
If Jesus is the only way to have life after death, then how do I claim it? How do I get life after death and be able to spend eternity with God in Heaven? First, you have to stop trusting in yourself and put all of your trust in Jesus Christ for forgiveness of your sin and for your future home in Heaven. Acts 16:31 says “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved…” Romans 10:13says “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” God promises that if you put pride aside, agree with Him that you are a sinner by nature, and ask Him to save you by calling on the name of Jesus and putting your faith and trust in Him, that He will save you and give life with Him after death!
You can make that decision right now sitting where you are by praying a simple prayer in your heart. The words aren’t important; the heart is what matters. In you heart, maybe it could go something like this: Dear God, I know that am a sinner; separated from you because of sin. I know that there’s a penalty for sin and that I can’t pay that penalty on my own. I confess that I’m a sinner and I turn to you now and ask you to save me. Save me from the penalty of sin and give me life with You after death. Thank you for loving me and for saving me! –Amen
